You're my funny valentine.

Happy Valentines Day! Whether you love it or hate it, there's an undeniable charm surrounding the holiday. Yes, as so many people on my Facebook and Twitter timelines have pointed out, we should show our loved ones affection every day of the year, but surely there's no harm in having one day a year dedicated to mushy, sugar-coated romance, love hearts, chocolate and sweet sentiments? It's a good excuse to be unashamedly, putridly gooey for a day, and even if you aren't loved up, you can still look forward to cheap, clearance chocolate as of tomorrow morning.

My valentine is, of course, Grant. We actually celebrated at home last week before we came back to Cornwall to see my family - a Chinese takeaway, a bottle of wine and a night of films in bed was more our style than a set menu meal in the company of twenty or so misty eyed couples - however this morning I still greeted him with a mug of tea, a homemade cupcake and a print of the illustration above that I commissioned from the amazing Kathryn Wilkins. I'm in love with the final product and can't wait to get it hanging up in the flat (Grant loves it too, which is the main thing!). Despite already treating me to my dream dress, he presented me with a big box of chocolates and a wonderfully sweet card.

This year, not only was I spoiled by Grant, but I also received this little package from Motel. Nestled inside was a Crown and Glory glitter heart clip, some Scarlett Hearts collar pins, a £25 Motel voucher (that I've yet to spend!) and numerous other loved-up goodies.

How have you spent your Valentines Day, or are you strictly in the anti-Valentines camp?

  1. That illustration is adorable! I don't like the day as a whole but I love seeing the things people manage to do for each other, like your illustration. I love quirky gifts :)

  3. Your valentines day sounds great. Single but even I'll admit that though I'll rant about it, it's still something I'd take part in if I wasn't single. Though I celebrated it today by belting out those soppy cheesy songs.
Love the illustration and those cupcakes have my mouth watering! :)

  5. Sounds like the perfect Valentines Day and the illustration is adorable! You look like a princess who's been swept off her feet :)
I'm single but not going to complain about it, friends are more important to me at the moment. Also there were about six birthdays to celebrate at Sixth Form, so plenty of cake to take our minds off things :)

  11. That print is so sweet! And what a lovely little package to receive! Happy Valentine's Day! My husband is taking me out for dinner; he bought me a gorgeous dress, too. Sadly, it didn't fit, but they had a different size so I got to re-order it.

  15. This is a lovely way to celebrate valentines day. Misty-eyed couples and a meal isn't my cuppa tea either, I just think it would be very strange to be surrounded by JUST couples for an evening - and very annoying too! (: x

  20. The illustration is simply lovely! ♥ I'm also a anti V-Day xD Because I really do believe love shouldn't be showed trough greasy actions like V-Day but I'm also sure my perception of seeing things will change when I will get a boyfriend..

    Have a nice weekend,
